WWE Survivor Series WarGames 2022: Every Match Ranked From Worst To Best
WarGames makes a pretty good main roster debut.
WWE's treatment of Survivor Series in recent years has been an incredibly mixed bag, dominated by underwhelming Brand Wars nonsense and a general feeling that the company doesn't care all that much for the iconic match type.
But this year saw WWE give the show a radical reworking with the introduction of WarGames, which while an inspired idea on paper, didn't entirely fill the void left by the much-loved traditional 5v5 elimination matches.
Still, on its own merits this was a solid night of wrestling in which the two WarGames matches felt like they actually did something story-wise, there was a well-earned title change, and only a single dud match among the bunch.
Though one hopes that WarGames doesn't replace the typical Survivor Series format from this year onwards, it was an interesting attempt to try something new, even if it'd need some fundamental revisions for possible future editions.
Again, though, the quality across the mere five matches was generally good-to-great - with just one exception - ensuring that this was a solid, if admittedly not unforgettable, entry into the Survivor Series canon...
5. SmackDown Women's Title: Ronda Rousey (c) Vs. Shotzi
Result: Ronda makes Shotzi tap to an Armbar to retain the title (7:15).
Rating: Not a single living soul expected Shotzi to win this, but at least she put in an appealingly gutsy showing.
Beyond that this was a weirdly sloppy and blandly forgettable bout. Ronda and Shotzi didn't have much in the way of natural chemistry, and large swaths of the match lacked momentum as a result.
It didn't help at all that the crowd clearly didn't have much interest in it. This might well be Ronda's worst WWE PPV match so far, and it's largely because she seemed so off her game, rather than Shotzi being relatively "green".
Shotzi was certainly trying, but there's only so much to be done when two wrestlers are fundamentally mismatched. The only not-good match on the card at least, and it was short to boot. 4/10
