WWE To Announce Several NXT Wrestler Releases?
WWE may have just shed a few wrestlers tied to its developmental brand, NXT.
WWE could be on the verge of announcing a number of NXT releases.
The Wrestling Observer/Figure Four Online's Bryan Alvarez tweeted as much to his Twitter Super Followers overnight, stating:-
I think we have a few NXT cuts today.
WWE is yet to announce anything, nor have any wrestlers come forward and confirmed they have been let go. Time will tell how this plays out.
The market-leading wrestling promotion has been increasingly trigger-happy when it comes to talent cuts over the past couple of years. This started in 2020, when the billion-dollar corporation started shedding dozens of wrestlers in swooping rounds of "budget cuts", attributing these to the COVID-19 pandemic. 2021 brought similar culls. Thus far, 2022 has brought rounds of releases amongst NXT personnel in January and April, along with the promotion shedding the bulk of its NXT UK crew following the brand's shuttering in August.
James Kimball, WWE's SVP of Talent Relations and Strategy, recently told Bleacher Report that the company currently reviews developmental wrestlers at six-month intervals. Additionally, talents are typically given two years to either be called up to the main roster or moved on from WWE altogether.
WWE underwent a significant developmental overhaul in September 2021, transitioning away from established, experienced independent wrestlers to younger, ground-up prospects.
