WWE officials have made overtures to former headliner Bruno Sammartino about being the marquee name inducted into the Hall of Fame Class of 2013. Contact has already been made but Sammartino's decision on the induction has yet to be revealed. Sammartino, who should really have been inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in its early days of existence, was the longest-running champion in the history of the World Wide Wrestling Federation when he held the belt in two reigns that spanned 11 years in total. He was the most popular American wrestler in the 1960s and 1970s and carried Vince McMahon Senior's organisation as the marquee star. However politics have to date dictated Sammartino's absence from the Hall of Fame. He left Vince McMahon's WWE in the late 80's, is disliked by the WWE owner and Sammartino has been very critical of the direction of the company and the WWE product over the years. He has turned down several opportunities to work with the WWE and has been outspoken against them in the media. Despite McMahon's dislike of Sammartino, there are very few big names from wrestling's match to take the marquee slot in the coming years Hall of Fame ceremonies. There is of course Macho Man Randy Savage but that one seems as unlikely as ever but McMahon seems to have signalled Sammartino as the candidate he wants to go in this year. WWE WrestleMania 29 takes place in New Jersey, so the Hall of Fame ceremony the night before will likely take place in the New York city area. Currently there are no names confirmed but Rena Mero (aka Sable) looks a lock given her husband Brock Lesnar will be performing at WrestleMania 29.
