Going into WrestleMania I, Nikolai Volkoff was, along with the Iron Sheik, arguably the most hated foreign heel in all of pro wrestling. That hatred from wrestling fans was shown at WrestleMania I, when Sheik and Volkoff used underhanded tactics to capture the WWE Tag Team Championships. From there, Volkoff would switch between pro-west and traditional evil foreigner gimmicks on a few occasions, before his in-ring career started winding down. He continues wrestling part-time to this day, and has made a few appearances for WWE for special Old School episodes of RAW. As for full-time work, Volkoff has worked mainly in security positions. He has also attempted to dabble in local politics in the state of Maryland, but was unsuccessful.
