WWE WrestleMania 33: Assessing The Potential Of All 14 Matches
6. The Usos Vs. American Alpha - SmackDown Tag Team Title Match
A 'Mania rematch of Tuesday's stunning SmackDown Tag Team Title Match between new champions The Usos and American Alpha has yet to be signed - but the Usos' recent Twitter activity all but confirms that it's going to take place.
The match was positively awesome - as good an ultra-athletic modern update of the classic southern tag team formula as anything we've seen in NXT in recent years. The psychology underpinning every jaw-dropping high spot was beautiful. Everything was timed and performed to absolute perfection to ensure maximum audience investment. American Alpha have never looked more like stars since their promotion to the main roster...
...which makes it all the more depressing that the WrestleMania match will likely be a pale, far shorter imitation shunted to the pre-show. On Tuesday's evidence, the two teams deserve far better - but there is an argument to the contrary. Audience reaction to American Alpha has been mostly tepid; so much so that the inevitable relegation isn't quite an injustice.
The match itself is guaranteed to be good, while it lasts, but it's destined to not last very long at all. The last two tag team dark matches, at 'Manias 31 and 32, averaged out at around the seven minute mark - not long enough to reach Tuesday's awesome highs.
