Result: AJ destroys Shane with the Phenomenal Forearm (20:09).

Verdict: Talk about an impressive way to open the PPV proper, though this also resulted in the show peaking way, way too early. It was a physical showdown from the outset with Shane putting up a fun fight against AJ.

The referee knockout spot was unnecessary and a lame aspect of an otherwise highly entertaining match, with the brutal table spot and Shane's Shooting Star Press being the easy highlights.

The right man obviously won and Shane came out of it looking like a bad***, even if the final sequence was a bit of an anti-climax. It's certainly one of the better WrestleMania openers of recent years and, despite the insistence of many fans during the build, absolutely didn't need a stipulation in front of it. 7/10
