WWE WrestleMania Backlash 2022: 10 Nightmares That Could Come True
Think you've seen the last of Brock Lesnar vs. Roman Reigns in WWE? Think again!
WWE must crown a new SmackDown Women's Champion, reveal the next layer of Edge-related goth madness and keep Drew McIntyre strong at WrestleMania Backlash. Those are all things that should go down, but this article is more concerned with all the sleep-disturbing nightmares that could happen this Sunday.
Start biting those fingernails now.
Creatively, 'Mania Backlash is a bit of an annoyance to WWE's staff. Most matches lined up for the weekend are repeats from WrestleMania itself, and almost all of them seem destined to march on past Backlash into June's Hell In A Cell. It'll almost be like the next "premium live event" never happened.
That might be a good thing if some of the terrors lurking within these pages ring true. WWE may well double down on some unwanted characters, wobble mightily when it comes to Edge's modern-day version of the Brood and bring back an old reliable for the resumption of a rivalry most figured was finished.
If that's the case, then Vince McMahon can't blame anybody for yawning and wondering just when he'll start setting up more credible challengers for Roman Reigns.
Ready for some Backlash nightmares? Here goes.
10. Any 24/7 Title Shenanigans At All
Right, stop it.
This 24/7 Title nonsense has been running since Mick Foley debuted the belt on the 20 May 2019 episode of Raw. That was 1,080 days ago at time of writing, and WWE has booked 162 title changes since. The joke is old now, and it has been since R-Truth's original laughs dried up several years ago.
Recently, ex-Raw Women's Champ Nikki A.S.H even got involved in the silliness by trading the thing with Dana Brooke. Honestly, the whole thing is just so boring now, and it'd be a travesty if precious pay-per-view minutes were wasted on anything to do with this played out 24/7 sh*te.
One can see Brooke cutting a backstage promo before being accosted by A.S.H, Akira Tozawa, Reggie and others. Hell, there's even scope for backstage announcer Kevin Patrick to get a run with the wretched strap. Older fans must be wishing someone would throw it in the trash like Scott Hall did with WCW's TV Title in 1999.
