WWE's Backup Pick For Men's WWE Royal Rumble 2020 Revealed?
Paul Heyman had someone other than Drew McIntyre and Roman Reigns in mind...
Dave Meltzer claimed on the latest edition of Wrestling Observer Radio that Aleister Black was a dark horse pick to win the men's 2020 Royal Rumble match.
Paul Heyman was reportedly keen on booking a surprise in Houston that'd see Black come out on top and book a slot against Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 36. It was Vince McMahon who vetoed that idea and decided last-minute that Drew McIntyre should be the shock winner instead.
Roman Reigns was the firm favourite heading into the pay-per-view, but it looks like he'll tangle with Universal Champ Bray Wyatt (and his 'Fiend' alter ego) over on SmackDown in the lead-up to 'Mania.
Heyman's support will mean a great deal to Black though. The fact he was even suggested as a possible Rumble winner at all shows just how much faith Raw's creative team has in his skills, and it bodes well for the rest of the year.
As talented as Black undoubtedly is, McIntyre was the right choice to win. He's been waiting on an opportunity like this for years, and it would've been a shame to see him pushed to the back of the line yet again.
