The first-ever women's WrestleMania main event could take place as early as next year, according to PWStream.

The website claims that WWE is planning for Charlotte Flair to face Ronda Rousey in the headline spot of WrestleMania 35, which will take place at East Rutherford's MetLife Stadium on 7 April, 2019. This is cited as the reason that the SmackDown Women's Champion went over the previously undefeated Asuka on Sunday.

On the same night, Ronda Rousey confounded the pre-show expectations with an impressive performance in her tag team bout against Stephanie McMaohon and Triple H. Partnered with Kurt Angle, the UFC star also managed a notably strong reaction from the New Orleans crowd.

With a full year to go until the next Show of Shows, there is of course a strong possibility that - even if this is true - WWE officials could yet have a change of heart. But similar reports surfaced around this time last year, correctly predicting that Brock Lesnar versus Roman Reigns would close out WrestleMania 34.

Should Charlotte and Ronda get the green light, it will be the latest in a long line of female firsts accomplished by the company over recent years. In January, it staged the inaugural women's Royal Rumble, with a six-woman Elimination Chamber match taking place for the first time the following month.
