SmackDown star Mickie James, who has been out of action nursing an ACL tear since June, is set to undergo surgery to repair the injury.

According to The Wrestling Observer, James, 39, will enter theatre later today at the Andrews Sports Medicine and Orthopaedic Center in Birmingham, AL.

Typical recovery time from the procedure is between seven and nine months, meaning we won't see Mickie until some point next spring. A women's Battle Royal spot at WrestleMania seems a likely role for her return.

James endured the injury during a match opposite Carmella at a WWE Live event on 1 June, later confirmed by an MRI scan as a torn ACL.

The good news is that James is remaining active whilst she is away from the ring, as she continues work on her third studio country music album. Last week, the singer was on hand for the All-Star Country Music Jam in her hometown Richmond, VA, supporting Big & Rich.

She described the gig as an "absolute honor."

We wish Mickie all the best with her recovery, and her budding music career.
