WWE's Original Golden Egg Plans Were A LOT Worse
Just when you thought the Austin Theory/Vince McMahon 'Red Notice' payoff couldn't get dumber...
WWE wrapped its short golden egg storyline on last week's episode of Raw, with Austin Theory revealed as the person who stole the Red Notice prop from Vince McMahon's desk the night before at Survivor Series 2021, leading, surprisingly, to the Chairman gifting Theory a WWE Title shot against Big E.
The story was put together as part of a paid promotion for Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson's new Netflix movie, with Johnson himself originally pegged to appear. This ended up not happening, but WWE, bound by a financial obligation, proceeded anyway.
Per Fightful Select, WWE originally had worse plans for Cleopatra's $100 million egg. Much worse.
The promotion's first set of plans have been described by Fightful's sources as "much worse with the stakes much lower." The 24/7 Championship was reportedly involved in some form.
Teams close to The Rock and/or Red Notice didn't see this specific pitch as substantial, so Vince McMahon was brought into the equation in order to make the angle feel more important. Thus, he showed up with the prop at Survivor Series.
The story continues to echo throughout WWE programming, with McMahon and Theory watching last night's Raw show together from the latter's office.
