Last week's Bray Wyatt vs. Seth Rollins Hell In A Cell match was met with mass derision amongst wrestling fans, as WWE booked a daft finish that saw the referee call a stoppage as the Universal Champion used a sledgehammer to bludgeon a pile of plunder under which The Fiend was buried.

Per Dave Meltzer in this week's Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE actually had another finish in mind, albeit one that would still have concluded in a no-contest.

Meltzer's sources claim that the alternative finish would have seen Wyatt taking a Mankind-esque bump off the cell. This would have prompted the referee's stoppage, with The Fiend rising up in the immediate aftermath, then destroying Rollins after the bell.

On top of this, Meltzer writes that the ending WWE went with was Vince McMahon's idea and that both were supposed to resemble a horror movie, with the killer coming back to life when everyone assumed he was dead.

Post-PPV reports had Vince laughing at the negative crowd reaction and loud "refund," "restart the match," "bullsh*t," and "AEW" chants. Meltzer confirms this in the Observer, with some sources claiming the laughter was to disguise his anger.
