Yesterday saw WWE announce that Rey Mysterio had suffered a reported torn triceps injury while teaming with son Dominik to face Seth Rollins and Murphy at Payback 2020, leading to him being substituted out of a Raw match with 'The Monday Night Messiah.'

Rey was replaced by Dominik, who fell to Seth in the mini-tournament to determine WWE Champion Drew McIntyre's next contender, and it looks like his injury is legitimate.

While WWE frequently kayfabe such things, the Wrestling Observer's Dave Meltzer writes that Mysterio is actually hurt. It is reported that the injury isn't thought to be a full triceps tear, as Rey won't require surgery, and that it isn't considered particularly serious, though Mysterio will still need to miss up to two months of ring time.

This is a brighter prognosis than those usually offered for such injuries. If Rey's torn triceps had required surgery, he'd be looking at a four-to-six-month absence before being able to resume training, let alone returning to the squared circle. Fortunately, the veteran will be able to recover through rehabilitation alone.

It'll be interesting to see if Dominik keeps the Rollins rivalry going without his father, having fallen to Seth in each of their two singles bouts.
