WWE's Sheamus Blasts Back At Body-Shamers
Sheamus says he was brought back to TV early, having returned to Raw on Monday.
WWE's Sheamus has responded to the ugly wave of body-shaming he was subjected to after returning on this Monday's Raw, stating that he was called back to WWE television from injury earlier than expected.
On Raw, Sheamus wrestled for the first time since August 2023, defeating Ivar in his comeback match. This was unfortunately accompanied by a wave of disparaging comments on his physique online.
In response, Sheamus tweeted that he was originally preparing to return around WWE's 2024 Draft - which kicks off next Friday (26 April). The company called him up early, but he has "been sleeping in the gym ever since."
Said the former WWE Champion:
Ok Ok take your best shots.. Whalemus, Too Many Pies, etc.. and then we’re done with the photoshopping & shaming. I was aiming for the Draft & got an early call-up. My bad. On me. Been sleeping in the gym ever since SO watch this space ?? i appreciate the love too #Sheamoose pic.twitter.com/KlO6TmWTz4— Sheamus (@WWESheamus) April 18, 2024
Before this Monday, Sheamus hadn't competed since losing to Adam 'Edge' Copeland in the latter's WWE farewell match on the 18 August 2023 SmackDown. The 46-year-old, who has a long history of potentially career-shortening neck and spinal issues, had faced an "unimaginably painful" road back to the squared circle following his latest battle with injuries.
Sheamus posted the following to Instagram earlier this week:
The road back to the ring is slow, rough and unimaginally painful. 2 months ago i thought i was hanging up my boots for good but a lot of doctors, trainers and physios helped get me cleared to do what i love.. fight. #thisiswhatwedo
Though he returned on Raw, Sheamus is technically still assigned to SmackDown on WWE.com's roster page.
