7. Right Result, Eh Match

If you’re judging match quality based on fan noise, The Last Time Is Now Tournament semifinal between LA Knight and Jey Uso must have been a certified banger.

In reality, the sub-10-minute match was what it was. Jey really should retire his “spear” (if you can even call it that) before it devolves into a walking hug. LA Knight had a near-miss when he attempted to scale the turnbuckles for his superplex, but he recovered well enough to deliver the maneuver.

The finish saw Uso hit a superkick, spear, and splash, only for Knight to reverse the cover into a crucifix pin for the win. This really was the right move, as Gunther versus Jey would have been their fourth singles match this year alone, and sixth in less than two years. Gunther and Knight have only squared off in a one-on-one match once, in early 2022 in NXT.

Additionally, Knight had a mini-program with John Cena that never made it into the ring, aside from the two tagging together against the Bloodline. There’s enough history there to give a little juice if WWE wanted to explore it on social media or on SmackDown this week.
