You Won't Believe This CRAZY Gimmick Match WWE Almost Booked
WWE's classic 'Inferno' match spectacle was almost very, VERY different.
WWE's 'Inferno' matches have never been the best.
In fairness, workers like The Undertaker, Kane, Triple H, Bray Wyatt and others have been tasked with using real flames. That's obviously dangerous, so they're probably not too worried about match quality more than escaping burn-free.
The first WWE 'Inferno' spectacle took place at Unforgiven 1998. It was a fairly dull affair that didn't live up to the hype, but Bruce Prichard revealed on a recent episode of his podcast that things were almost way crazier than you'd think.
Bruce's original plan for the gimmick bout was to hold it inside a cage. That'd engulf the ring in a "wall of flames", and would ensure that nobody would be able to get in or get out - basically, it was a fiery steel cage match, which sounds insane.
Vince McMahon wasn't up for that, but he did want somebody to get set on fire during the first one. So, attention moved away from the cage plan and towards a ring of intense heat that'd surround ringside instead.
That way, fans would be able to see Kane getting set ablaze properly.
