In the aftermath of the Kree/Skrull War, the Illuminati, consisting of members such as Professor X and Iron Man, decided the best way to deal with them pesky Skrulls is to invade their homeworld and slap them about a bit. Which went just about as well as you'd expect it to.

Captured and studied, they finally managed to escape but in doing so had unwittingly given the Skrulls the knowledge that they needed to infiltrate the Earth, disguised as some of Earth's Greatest Superheroes.

Unfairly lambasted on release, or fairly depending on your viewpoint, many have since written Secret Invasion off as a rare misstep but if you're willing to overlook a few niggling faults, such as the dialogue feeling a little off in places, then it's truly a damn fine piece of work.

Speaking to everyone's fear of the unknown, Secret Invasion has you questioning every familiar face you see as you turn the pages, never truly sure who is or isn't the bad guy.
