10 Brilliant Marvel Event Comics Fans Should Read
6. Avengers Vs. X-Men
When that pesky Phoenix Force headed towards Earth in search of a new host, it saw the Avengers and the X-Men at loggerheads on just how to deal with the situation. Marvel's Mutants were convinced that its arrival would be nothing but beneficial for their kind, but Earth's Mightiest Heroes thought otherwise, convinced that it would wipe out all life on the planet.
Beginning in April of 2012 and running all the way to October of the same year, Avengers vs. X-Men saw two of the most popular teams in comic book history go head to head, mano-a-mano, as they tried to prove that their way was the right way, with the ever so subtle use of extreme violence.
It's a triumph of comic book writing, which should come as no surprise as it was in the capable hands of Brian Bendis, Matt Fraction, Jason Aaron, Ed Brubaker and Jonathan Hickman, who weave an intricate story of one time friends and allies, forced to battle each other for their beliefs.
And the artwork isn't shabby either, with Kubert, Coipel, and the genius that is Romita Jr. bringing each page to life with some of their best work to date.
Avengers vs. X-Men was seen by some as quite a gamble when it was first announced, but boy did it pay off.
