10 Comic Book Events That Changed Everything

9. The Multiversity

Still ongoing at the time of writing, Grant Morrison€™s Multiversity project is probably not, strictly speaking, an event. However, the ramifications of this story, together with (literally) entire universes of spin-off potential, have us second-guessing our own criteria. By the looks of things, Morrison is placing his entire body of comics work (including his stuff for Marvel) into a mighty canon and aiming it squarely at the heart of the DCU€™s multiverse. Not since the heady days of Carmine Infantino have DC enjoyed such an extensive (not to mention bold) look into the deeper recesses of their universe. So far, each issue of Multiversity has taken place on a different parallel earth. Not only has this allowed for some interesting re-interpretations of well-known DC characters such as Superman and Vandal Savage, it has also allowed readers to enjoy characters formerly erased or displaced by DC€™s post-Flashpoint continuity. If DC handles it correctly, The Multiversity could well be a foundation stone of sorts for an entirely new line of books, stories and characters. In this way, Multiversity could, potentially, become Crisis on Infinite Earths for a whole new generation (which, more than anything else, is why it made this list). Time will tell at this point.
