10 Disastrous Superhero Redesigns

The Punisher is an inherently serious character. You can€™t really do jokes with him, unless it€™s the Garth Ennis brand of none-more-black humour, or that page from a few years ago where somebody makes him a machine gun that fires knives. Yes, that really happened. Despite existing in the frequently ridiculous Marvel Universe, Frank Castle tends to remain a lot more grounded.

Whenever he pops up in a superhero title the tone inevitably changes, because the four-colour fun of mainstream comic books doesn€™t really suit a guy whose criminal killing spree was inspired by his wife and children dying in the middle of a gang war. Still, Jason Aaron gave it the old college try during one of the few attempts to launch a Punisher series in the mainstream Marvel U (previous classic runs were part of the MAX mature readers line), which ended when he got torn to pieces by Wolverine€™s son Daken - long story.

At least, that seemed like the end, until a self-explanatory group called the Legion Of Monsters pieced him back together, and he returned from the dead. Rather a lot like Frankenstein€™s monster, complete with bolts in the neck and stitches all over. Yeah, this one didn€™t last very long, as he was turned back to normal at the end of the series.
