10 Most Unexpectedly Powerful DC Villains

Who would have thought Crazy Quilt could be considered a genuine threat?

DC Comics have churned out countless fantastical criminals over the years. From evil Kryptonians to psychotic clowns, the beloved company has created some of the most iconic villains, not just in comic books, but in literature. After all, who in the world hasn't heard of Batman's nemesis, the Joker?

It's curious how the Joker is the most famous supervillain of all time considering he has absolutely no superpowers. On the other side of the spectrum, there are many criminals in the DC universe that could wipe the floor with the Justice League and yet, they are rarely in the limelight.

Just because a villain is incredibly powerful doesn't necessarily mean they'll become popular. In fact, some of the deadliest criminals in comic history have been dismissed or forgotten due to bad writing or being too weird.

There are a few characters in this list that you probably never heard of. There are some you may know but didn't realise the full scale of their powers. And there are others who sound so ridiculous, you would never consider them a threat. Here are ten DC supervillains who are far more than meets the eye.

10. Lord Death Man

In 1966, Batman faced a Japanese crime lord called Lord Death Man who claimed to be immortal. In reality, he mastered a yoga technique to stop his heart beating and make his pulse undetectable. His "immortality" may have begun as a trick, but Lord Death Man eventually developed regenerating powers, making him basically impossible to kill.

After gaining immortality (it's never explained how), Lord Death Man's new ambition was to rule the Japanese underworld. Even if Batman captures him, there's nothing the Dark Knight can do to put him down for good.

Lord Death Man has been run over by a truck, shot repeatedly, dissected, and hurled into space, and yet he always returns. Since he can never be truly stopped, Lord Death Man has the potential to be one of Batman's most formidable foes.

He should be a far greater threat to Gotham's protector than the Riddler or Penguin, but he's made less than ten appearances in the comics. He may not be a well-known Batman villain, but he will still be around long after the rest of Gotham's criminals have kicked the bucket.
