Lex Luthor holds a very special place in comic books - he's the classic arch-enemy of the most famous and popular superhero of all time, Superman. Having first appeared in 1940's Action Comics #23, Luthor has been a prominent figure in DC comic books - and indeed a thorn in the Man of Steel's side - ever since. With his iconic bald head, the multi-billionaire businessman has used his brain to combat the Kryptonian hero's brawn, often to devastating effect, utilising genius schemes, powerful technology and the services of other powerful villains in a determined attempt to take him down once and for all.
