10 Wacky Alternate DC Comics Universes That Need Exploration

By Bryant Lucas /

7. Earth 4 €“ The Charlton World

Bust out dusty copy of Watchmen, and you€™ll find some uncanny resemblances to Earth 4, home the characters DC acquired from Charlton Comics in the 80€™s. When Alan Moore approached DC with his idea for Watchmen, he wanted to use the Charlton characters. DC had other plans for the characters, so Moore was forced to use analogues. Captain Atom became Dr Manhattan; The Question became Rorschach; Blue Beetle became Night Owl, and so on. Although DC has integrated the Charlton characters into their main universe (Earth 0), on Earth 4 the Charlton characters exist as analogues of their Watchmen counterparts €“ making them analogues of analogues. Confusing? That€™s comics. In The Multiversity Morrison devotes an entire issue to this universe called Pax Americana, a technical masterpiece with art by Frank Quietly. As one of the standout issues of The Multiversity, we can€™t help but want to see more of this world.
