5. Superman€™s Marriage Dissolved

Seriously, comic book companies must be full of people who hate marriage. You€™d think that the lot of them are single bachelors angry with anyone and everyone who ties the knot. Within the past decade and a half, there have been more marriage controversies in comics than ever before. The prime DC example of this is the marriage between Clark Kent and Lois Lane. The Clark/Lois/Superman love triangle has been a major part of the Superman mythos since Action Comics #1 (1938), and in 1990 Clark finally revealed that he was Superman to Lois and simultaneously proposed: a natural progression for both characters. After a long complicated engagement, Clark and Lois finally got married in 1996. Then The New 52 happened (have you noticed a trend yet?), and DC erased the 15 years of marital bliss between Clark and Lois. In all fairness, DC put a ban on any of their heroes being married, fearing that marriage matures characters to the point of their conclusion; nevertheless, some relationships are too iconic to retcon.
