Written and illustrated by comic legends Marv Wolfmen and George Pérez, Crisis On Infinite Earths was pretty much the grandfather of all DC reboots. It was here the DC began its quasi-futile attempts to clean up its continuity by destroying the infinite multiverse. The story was essentially a tour de force of DCs multiverse, as it paid homage to 50 years of storytelling. The Anti-Monitor, eventually destroyed the multiverse, barring Earth One, Earth Two, Earth Four, Earth Five and Earth X. All of these Earths were retconned and compounded into a single continuity for a single universe, which as you can imagine, became problematic. Certain character origins, like Power Girl and Hawkman, were rewritten creating confusion amongst fans, creators and editors. Some characters just didnt work in this new Earth, like Captain Marvel (Shazam) who now seemed like cheap rip off of Superman instead of Earths Mightiest Mortal. Though many fans loved the event during its time, others mourned the loss of their beloved heroes, fearing that they would never reappear in comics again.
