13. Death Of The Endless

One of the few choices on our list that falls outside Marvel or DC fiction sits at unlucky number 13, Death of the Endless.

The Endless are a group of beings that exist in Vertigo’s The Sandman series, and Death—despite the cold manner of her name—is actually one of the more likeable out of that bunch.

She doesn’t wield swords, she’s not trained in combat, heck, she doesn’t even raise her voice. Yet somehow, Neil Gaiman’s imagining of death as a softly spoken and overall really nice goth girl is out favourite embodiment of Death there’s ever been.

A being of near limitless power who will ultimately shepherd almost all beings into the afterlife. There’s reason enough to argue she may be the most badass of all.
