There perhaps isn’t anyone in this countdown who subverts the female stereotype quite like Big Barda of the New Gods, a 6’2” mountain of muscle who’s extremely protective of her husband, Mister Miracle.

Big Barda was also born in a sinister setting and was intended to be a high-ranking troop in the army of Darkseid, Superman’s great nemesis, but she escaped her captors and has gone on to establish herself as a member of the Justice League—luckily for them.

In the past described as possessing strength on a par with Superman and numerous other super heavyweights of the DC universe, combined with a cold, brash exterior, Big Barda would find her way into any badass list.
