8 Times Asgard Went To War
8. The Fall Of Asgard
Never satisfied with his brother destined to replace their father as king of Asgard, Loki has always been thinking of various schemes to ensure he's gets the throne. But proving that the person who wants to be king doesn't always make for the best one, we have the Fall of Asgard storyline written by Stan Lee and drawn by Jack Kirby.
With Odin having entered the Odinsleep, Loki seizes the opportunity by attacking Asgard with an army of giants. Taking advantage of the chaos from the battle, Loki slips into Odin's chamber and takes the Imperial Ring from the sleeping All Father, and proceeds to name himself the new king of Asgard.
However, with Loki's rise to power comes the rise of Surtur. A fire giant with arguably more power than Odin, Surtur marches towards Asgard vowing to destroy it, while raining fire upon the realm. Terrified at the prospect of losing everything he has just earned, Loki flees to Earth leaving Asgard without a king. Thankfully, Thor and the armies of Asgard were able to buy enough time for Odin to awaken and banish Surtur and reclaim his throne.
