Carol Danvers, aka Captain Marvel, may have made her debut in the MCU in 2019, but she's been kicking butt and taking names in the comics for a long time. The character first appeared all the way back in 1968, and there's a ton of comic book history the film didn't even touch.

One of the best ways new fans can understand the character is to read her huge library of comics. While many heroes have a bunch of books that don't add up, there's not a lot in Danvers' library that doesn't make for exceptional reading.

While you could head to your local comic shop and pull single issues, you might find it easier to locate some trade paperbacks and graphic novels that truly tell the story of how this amazing character came to be.

This list identifies the 10 best stories that have featured Carol Danvers as either Ms. Marvel, Captain Marvel, Binary, or whichever handle she was operating under at the time. The books are presented with the best story featured at #1, and not in a chronological order. As such, if you aren't at all familiar with the character, start with #3, then 2, 1, 5, and then go nuts with the rest!

10. The Good, The Green, And The Ugly

This team-up adventure puts our Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man and Captain Marvel together in a fight between a privatized mechanical police force and a 50-foot tall madwoman, which isn't necessarily the strangest part of this book, though it might just be one of Spider-Man's wackiest team-ups!

This book brought together Spider-Man and the new Captain Marvel, though it wasn't the first time the two have fought side-by-side. The two superheroes have teamed up from time to time over the years, and while all of their adventures are fun to read, this collection is easily the best of them all.

Unlike many of Danvers' other titles, this books isn't too dark or serious. Thanks to the inclusion of Spider-Man, the adventure gets a bit more insane than it does horrifying, which can sometimes be a "feature" of Danvers' stories.

Avenging Spider-Man: The Good, the Green and the Ugly is a great way to break into the more recent, light-hearted take on Captain Marvel. It's especially easy to jump into if you're a fan of Spider-Man, which is why this book makes for a great read.
