10 Amazing Recent Movies That Were 90 Minutes Or Less

4. Magpie

Though it received a rather listless, unassuming release last year, Magpie is a superbly savage, tight little thriller, starring Daisy Ridley as Anette, a woman whose daughter is starring in a film, and whose husband (Shazad Latif) begins to fall in love with the film's lead actress (Matilda Lutz).

Yet this is anything but a conventional pot-boiler thriller - screenwriter Tom Bateman (also Ridley's husband) offers up a deliciously dark commentary on gender roles and the part technology plays in modern relationships.

It'd be criminal to say anything more, but Daisy Ridley gives arguably her best performance to date in the role of a woman keen to break free from a crumbling marriage.

Impressively, it builds up a tantalisingly fraught situation and executes one hell of a satisfying rug-pull ending inside of a mere 90 minutes.

Sadly these sorts of modest yet well-crafted genre films are rarely released on the big screen anymore, but Magpie absolutely deserves to become a sleeper hit on streaming.
