10 Amazing Recent Movies That Were 90 Minutes Or Less
3. The Last Showgirl
It's pretty typical for movies with a fair share of awards buzz to clock in at two hours of more, because an expanded canvas naturally allows filmmakers and actors to dig a little deeper into their stories and characters.
And then there's The Last Showgirl - the third feature from Gia Coppola, daughter of Francis Ford - which says everything it needs to say in just 88 minutes.
Pamela Anderson has rightly earned rave reviews for her career-redefining performance as Shelly, a middle-aged Las Vegas showgirl who faces major life changes when the show she's headlined for 30 years suddenly closes.
The poignant parallels between Anderson's character and her own life speak for themselves, while the film's wider commentary on ageing makes it pair well with The Substance, despite operating in a totally different tonal register.
It'd also be remiss not to single out Jamie Lee Curtis, who is clearly having a ball here as Shelly's volcanic best friend and former showgirl Annette.
