Oh boy. I have a feeling that this is going to cause some trouble. Saga is an excellent comic book, one of the best I have ever read, as a matter of fact. I am not denying its brilliance. But, read that again. It is an excellent comic book. Comic book. I believe that it exploits the often ridiculous nature of comics, and uses that blank cheque of imagination to craft its beautifully realized story. And let's be honest. We all know what a Saga film would invite. Too much CGI, the high probability of it being toned downed to be more kid friendly, and in the end, a bastard child bearing a slight resemblance to the comic we all know and adore. While it certainly seems prime to film harvesting, the fan boy base of fans would likely not be happy regardless, and lets face it, could we bear the idea of movie executives changing it to make it more marketable? I can't. Saga's charm is it's inherent zany eccentricities. Hell, it flaunts it's ridiculousness, and somehow makes us laugh and feel warm inside. On that note, Saga is aimed at adults, and I have a hard time thinking of an adult audience that could digest such a story. In the end, I believe Saga retains it's strengths due to its form, and to think of a film version it to force yourself to accept the loss of much of what makes Saga great. And how on Earth would they even come close to matching Fiona Staples art?
