10. The Imagineering Story
The sentimental look at the history of Disneyland and its various iterations has made more than one reviewer utter 'WOW' in the first of its six episodes along. This is a bright and shining look through the growth of the Disney Empire.
Warts and all this is not. There are stories to be told about the hardship that some of the Disney employees faced along the way, yet that is not this story. But, it doesn't feel intentionally left out. Rather, this feels like a showcase of achievement despite adversity.
While the portrait of Walt Disney as both visionary pioneer and childlike glee-maker is not a new image, it has never been so fitting.
The series does examine some of the various failures that the company has experienced along the way in terms of its theme part expansion, and the controversies in revising some of the classics, yet it spends far more time depicting the things that went right.
That said, much like the Pixar Story, this does not come across too strongly of a propaganda piece. Instead, it seems like an essential piece of Disney history, created especially for the Disney+ platform, rather than being retrofit later to fit the medium.
The closing episode that discusses the upcoming projects on Disney's slate is sure to leave fans hungry for more. This is a must watch for those interested in the story of creation, narrated by the wonderful Angela Bassett.
