10 Best Horror Movies By Non-Horror Directors

3. The Ring - Gore Verbinski

This movie is scary. So flipping scary. Go out and do all the things on your bucket list because you€™re convinced you€™re going to die in seven days type-scary. So who directed it - Carpenter or Craven or some other horror maestro? Nope, it was Gore Verbinski. Before The Ring he had made two movies - The Mexican and Mousehunt. Afterwards he made a few Pirates Of The Caribbean movies and some other Johnny Depp four-quadrant vehicles. So how did he successfully create one of the scariest movies of the 2000s? And not just create, but adapt from a beloved Japanese original, which would prove elsewhere to repeatedly result in misguided and subpar imitations? Sadly, there€™s no straightforward answer. He knew how to build suspense, slowly unravel a mystery, and scare the bejeesus out of slumber party-goers everywhere. The story of Naomi Watts trying to save her cursed boy€™s life really resonated with people. So come back to horror, Gore, the genre and the audience miss you.
