10 Best Psychological Horrors Of The Modern Era
4. The Lighthouse
The Lighthouse is another A24 produced movie released early last year, starring Robert Pattinson and William Dafoe. If you got through any of their other films, you can get through this one, for it's definitely one that requires a lot of brain work. The simple version of the plot follows two lighthouse workers in 19th century England, who reside within the building over their extended working months, attempting to maintain their own sanity.
The film itself is filmed purely in black and white, to reconstruct the style of old horror movies, with long extended takes of shots, creating some uncomfortable moments throughout.
Pattinson and Dafoe work only as a two person cast, enduring a variety of extreme plot points, including a weird obsession over seagulls and mermaids. Behind the scenes interviews have revealed that the two spent as much time secluded from the real world as possible and endured weird method acting tricks to get them in to character, such as adding stones to their shoes and spinning around to create disorientation before each take.
It is definitely a film aimed at the older fans of the genre, but a great watch if you can keep up!
