One of the most telling things about this scene is the sheer amount of fans who believed it was a fake-out ending, and that a post-credits scene after the film's credits would prove that their beloved Wolverine would somehow, cheat death as we have seen him do multiple times before. But it wasn't to be.

Hugh Jackman's portrayal of the character across two decades has been one of the most universally loved by fans and critics alike, that puts him in the same league as Christopher Reeve, Robert Downey-Junior, and Christian Bale for their own career-defining roles. Logan going out on his own terms, saving the cloned-daughter he has come to care for from a lifetime of being a living weapon like he was is a heart-breaking moment, but no better way to give the character a send-off he deserves.

Hugh Jackman's Wolverine was the first real superhero to dominate screens in the 21st century. The actor and character set the bar for all subsequent performances that came after, and will forever be remembered as one of the greatest on-screen superheroes of all time.
