10 Bold Predictions For Future DC Movies

By Ben Bussey /

8. Zack Snyder Won't Be Around Much Longer Either

It's already confirmed that the Man Of Steel and Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice director is making it a hat trick with the upcoming Justice League Part 1, shooting this April. Snyder is also provisionally earmarked to helm Justice League Part 2. But my gut feeling is that will be the end of his involvement with the DCEU. Why do I think this? For starters, he faces the same woes as David Goyer: a whole lot of naysayers spitting bile at the work he's done with DC characters to date, doubting the decisions he's made since, and questioning whether he's the right person to play so vital a role in shaping the DCEU. Based on Man Of Steel, these are concerns I share, although I'll reserve further judgement until I've seen Batman V Superman (as should we all). But the key reason I don't think Snyder will just keep churning out DC movies is that, for better or worse, he seems to consider himself an artist. Remember how the posters for Watchmen proudly declared, 'from the visionary director of 300'? No matter how egotistical an overstatement that may have been, it certainly underlines how seriously Snyder takes himself. Consider his one wholly original work, Sucker Punch (well okay, maybe 'wholly original' is being generous, but you get my meaning); deeply flawed though it was, Snyder was clearly trying to make something that genuinely stood apart and challenged audiences. Moreso, he was trying to create something that was truly his own. Surely such an ambitious filmmaker will only be content for so long making movie after movie based on pre-existing characters, to service someone else's broader vision. On top of which: perhaps this a petty observation, but doesn't Snyder look absolutely exhausted in that picture above with Jason Momoa? Being so big a part of the DC machine would definitely appear to be taking its toll, much as Marvel took its toll on Joss Whedon; and so, if nothing else, Snyder may very well be in need of a rest.
