10 Bold Predictions For Future DC Movies

7. They WON'T Kill Off Superman

If you can, cast your memory back to when Robert Downey Jr was initially cast as Iron Man. This news was generally met with two responses: 1) complete astonishment that the notoriously troubled actor was being entrusted with a major leading role; and 2) the immediate assumption that Marvel would be adapting the Iron Man story Demon In A Bottle, in which Tony Stark battles alcoholism. Why else would Marvel cast an actor who infamously struggled with addiction for many years? It seemed a foregone conclusion. And yet, here we are almost a decade later, and Marvel have never brought Demon In A Bottle to the screen (unless we count the self-destructive hedonism of Iron Man 2, which we probably shouldn't). And at this point, it's hard to imagine they ever will. Given that the Marvel universe is only getting more epic, could room be found for such a story line now? And even if it did, would it be there for any reason beyond fan service? Anyway, to get to the point: there would seem to be similar assumptions that the Death of Superman is on its way to the big screen. After all, they've already let slip that Doomsday will show up in Batman V Superman, and everyone knows that character was conceived for the sole purpose of presenting a threat so great that even Superman could not defeat him without sacrificing his own life. Of course, DC brought Superman back in the comics almost immediately: and so the movies would have to follow suit. As such, even if Henry Cavill's Man of Steel were to be killed off, no one would believe it was a permanent measure, any more than anyone believed Captain Kirk was really going to die in Star Trek Into Darkness. So why even bother with the whole silly song and dance routine?
