10 Devastatingly Dark MCU Theories
2. The Real Reason Thanos Adopted Gamora
Not only is Thanos one of the most feared, and resourceful beings across the universe, he is also one of the smartest. He had known about the Infinity Stones long before he began his infinity quest, and it’s fair to say he likely did a lot of research into the subject before actually putting his plan into action.
The stone that alluded him the most was the Soul Stone. If it weren’t for Gamora finding a map detailing its whereabouts on Vormir, Thanos would never have found it. However, that’s not to say he didn’t know what he would have to do when he did find it.
When Thanos threw Gamora over the cliffs of Vormir, there were clearly blood stains from previous attempts to procure the stone, so there were people in the universe that had had this discussion with the Red Skull. Imagine what Thanos would have thought when he learned about the everlasting exchange years earlier.
With no one in his life that he truly loved, and thus having no way to exchange a soul for a soul, Thanos adopted young Gamora from Zen-Whoberi with the express intention of raising and loving her like a daughter, just so he had someone to trade for the Soul Stone a couple of decades down the line.
