10 Disastrous Movies That Actors And Directors Still Haven't Recovered From
3. Taylor Kitsch - Battleship/John Carter
In the summer of 2012, Hollywood seemed to firmly hedge their bets on Taylor Kitsch becoming blockbuster cinema's next major star, with the relatively unproven actor headlining two effects-driven epics with combined production costs of almost half a billion dollars that were released just weeks apart.
Neither movie was particularly warmly embraced, but matters weren't helped by two painfully dull performances from Kitsch in both Battleship and John Carter, the latter of which suffered the ignominy of becoming one of the biggest box office bombs in history.
Battleship was the worse movie by far, but it did nonetheless manage to squeeze out a tiny amount of profit, which is more than can be said for John Carter. With the Taylor Kitsch experiment over in almost record time, the actor has spent the years since rebuilding and rehabilitating his reputation with supporting roles in the likes of Lone Survivor and True Detective, but hasn't had a sniff of a leading role on the big screen since his ill-fated summer of 2012.
