10 Doomed Upcoming Movies That Could Be Great
These apparently "doomed" movies might actually be awesome.
Moviegoers have become highly adept at sniffing out a troubled project, from questionable casting announcements to the "off" vibes of a trailer to insider reports which detail a hectic production.
Often the writing is firmly on the wall for months, even years, before a movie releases that it's going to be doomed - either to critical or commercial failure, if not both - but it's also fair to say that nobody can predict the future, and it's always possible for an at-risk project to surprise us all.
And that's precisely what could very well happen with these 10 imperilled films, each of which many have already written off as consigned to failure.
But if we dig deep into the facts and sprinkle a little optimism around, there are reasons to expect a film that actually surpasses expectations.
While it's entirely possible that these movies are exactly what many people think they are, they could also be far better and more successful than anticipated.
It's far more fun to root for films to succeed than to fail, and so here's hoping that these movies transcend the negative pre-release anti-hype...
10. Bond 26
There was understandably much doom and gloom when Amazon announced that they'd acquired the James Bond franchise from custodians Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson, given their stated desire to expand the property into a larger cinematic universe with spin-offs, TV shows, and so on.
But Amazon certainly persuaded many that they were taking the next big-screen chapter of the franchise seriously when they recently announced that the legendary Denis Villeneuve (Dune) will be directing the currently untitled 26th Bond film.
Villeneuve is one of the fandom's top-tier dream picks, probably second only to Christopher Nolan, and so to see him bring his astonishing filmmaking to the world of 007 is tremendously exciting, no matter how little we know about the new movie.
Though Villeneuve is currently busy shooting Dune: Part Three, meaning that Bond 26 likely won't release until 2028 at the very earliest, hiring him to direct was a pure masterstroke on Amazon's part, to turn to the tide of public opinion on both the film and their wider acquisition of the brand.
