10 EVEN MORE Horror Movies You Knew Would Be Good After The First 10 Minutes

10. The Voices

One unappreciated flick that fell between the cracks in 2014 is The Voices, starring Ryan Reynolds. In this horror-comedy, the Deadpool favourite plays called Jerry, a schizophrenic factory worker who's infatuated with his co-worker, Fiona (Gemma Arterton). Due to his condition, Jerry spends his time having imaginary conversations with his dog and cat, also voiced by Reynolds.

Watching Jerry being governed by his lively mutt and temperamental kitty highlights early on that he's not in control of his life (or his mind), and it's obvious he's on the cusp of a mental breakdown since the presence of Fiona is amplifying his neuroses.

Based on the wacky set-up, it's apparent The Voices won't play out like a conventional horror. Having said that, the psychological satire is far stranger, funnier, and grosser than anyone could imagine. It plays up the funny side of Jerry's predicament but never downplays his illness, which makes the story all the more tragic. As a result, people will find themselves laughing one moment, and gasping in terror the next.

Even though The Voices' first ten minutes make it clear this is going to be a unique experience, nobody could be truly prepared for what they're about to see.
