10 Failed Movie Castings That Were A Blessing In Disguise

2. Adam Sandler As The Bear Jew In Inglourious Basterds

I bet you weren't expecting to see Adam Sandler linked to a role in a Quentin Tarantino film on this list, yet here we are.

Around the late 2000's, Sandler hadn't become the insufferable 'comedic' actor that can be found in straight to Netflix 'comedies' these days. Instead, he was still a fairly bankable star and had proven in the likes of Punch-Drunk Love that he had some acting chops.

Tarantino, always one to cast based on who would fit the part (not who would be the biggest draw) must have seen something he liked in Sandler and opted to offer the Happy Gilmore star the role of the baseball bat wielding 'Bear Jew', Donny Donowitz, in Inglourious Basterds.

Unfortunately, he had already accepted a part in Judd Apatow's Funny People, rendering him incapable of being involved in Tarantino's picture.

Sandler - as a comedian who is diagnosed with a fatal disease - would put in one of the most dramatically nuanced performances of his career in the aforementioned film.

Seeing Sandler in Tarantino's flick would have surely detracted from the story that the director wanted to tell and his dropping out also gave Eli Roth a chance to shine, too.

So, this one worked out for everyone.
