The Shining, everyone. Yes, that The Shining.

Kubrick's absolute masterclass in horror, tension, and suspense was nominated for Worst Actress and Worst Director. So for those of you keeping track at home, Stanley Kubrick, one of the greatest directors of all time, a man who had a higher IQ than any of us could ever hope to achieve, is worthy of a Worst Director nomination.

The Worst Actress nomination for Shelly Duvall is also grossly unfair, as her performance is less a performance and more a woman who is truly at her wit's end. She was so filled with anxiety throughout the shoot thanks to Kubrick's controversial tactics that her hair was freaking falling out. What more do you want, Razzies?

The Shining was a divisive film upon release, with many critics and audiences lambasting the film as a total misstep for Kubrick and the material. In the first year of the Razzies, this film looked like a shoe-in, seeing as it was so overwhelming bemoaned. Yet, this first year for the Razzies also came with a great hard-earned lesson: don't overplay your hand.

Decades later, The Shining has been reassessed by just about everyone (excluding Stephen King) and is now commonly viewed as one of the greatest horror films of all time.
