9. S. Darko (2009)

Donnie Darko was a movie crying out for a sequel... wait, no it wasn't. Eight years after Richard Kelly's cult classic, a completely unnecessary follow-up scored a limited theatrical release, with Daveigh Chase reprising her role as Samantha Darko in a project that was publicly disowned by original writer/director Kelly, and with good reason. Instead of trying to stand on its own merits, S. Darko instead attempts to replicate the look and feel of the original and fails miserably. Full of stereotypical characters spouting cliched and often laughably bad dialogue, the movie hits many of the same beats as its predecessor with none of the impact, and what attempts to be a serious and surreal follow-up instead turns out as a lazy and borderline unwatchable cash-in.
