10 Hated Movie Characters That Were Written Out After Fan Backlash
10. Willie Scott - Indiana Jones And The Temple Of Doom
Willie Scott, played by Kate Capshaw, was Indiana Jones' love interest in The Temple of Doom.
Following on from the success of Raiders of the Lost Ark, Spielberg made The Temple of Doom, a prequel to Raiders. The film was a prequel at the suggestion of Producer George Lucas, who wanted to make another Indiana Jones without the Nazis being the villain.
Due to this, Indy's first love interest, Marion Ravenwood was replaced by Willie. In the movie, however, she irritated fans almost the entire time she was on screen, mostly because she was far more of a damsel in distress than Marion. While this was intended to make a strong contrast between the two, it made her seem like a whiny and all-round irritating character who spent most of the movie screaming for help.
Following on from Marion Ravenwood, who had been a strong female role in Raiders, often standing up to Indy when he was out of line and fighting for herself, Willie Scott was a weak character who did nothing positive to the series, only irritating fans.
When The Last Crusade came out, Scott was gone, partly because of the time setting and while she was mentioned in The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, thankfully she didn't make an appearance.
