10 Hidden Details That Make Horror Movies Even Scarier
5. Annihilation - The Intricacies Of The Bear
While Annihilation is a sci-fi movie first and foremost, it's most certainly a horror as well. The body horror on display, the unnatural alien life and, of course, the horrifying bear that eats people and cries out with the death rattle of a dying woman provides enough scares for Alex Garland's misunderstood masterpiece to stand toe to toe with anything else in the genre.
While the aforementioned bear is the highlight in terms of freaky creatures, it's actually even more unnatural upon closer inspection. It's difficult to see because the scene is so dark, but the left side of the animal's face actually has part of a human skull embedded in it, reflecting how the alien 'shimmer' in the movie blends life forms together to create abominations such as this.
Likewise the bear also has human teeth on the inside of its mouth on top of the large fangs protruding from its gums, with these layers and layers of molars again perverting the distinction between human and animals.
Unfortunately you'd probably only have about 3 second to notice this detail if you ever got close enough to check for yourself.
