10 Horror Film Remakes To Avoid

By Dan Woburn /

9. Psycho (1998)

There€™s a fantastic quote from Gus Van Sant, when asked why he made a shot-for-shot remake of Hitchcock€™s 1960 game changer, Psycho. The answer? €œSo nobody else had to.€ Fair enough. But this particular remake still exists, and it€™s still pretty bad. Something has been lost in the modernisation of it all - and as creepy as Vince Vaughan is (he definitely has range, dammit, True Detective detractors be damned), he€™s not a scratch on Antony Perkins. The entire thing is an interesting experiment - Van Sant himself simply wanted to see what the results would be - but it still only makes for a tepid, clinical film. The telling factor was that the film barely made half its budget back worldwide. Brand recognition did nothing to help it. Nor did Anne Heche (remember her?).
