10 Horror Movie Villains Who Deserved The Win

10. The Creation - Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein

The tale of Frankenstein - or Frankenstein's monster, if you wanna get all nerdy and correct about this - is one of literature's most enduring tales of horror.

Mary Shelley's 1818 novel about a scientist and his quest to create new life has been adapted for the stage and screen approximately fifty bajillion times over the years, including by director Kenneth Branagh in 1994.

Starring Branagh as the Doctor and Robert de Niro as his "Creation", the movie is considered one of the most faithful adaptations of the book. Unfortunately, this means it ends with a real gut punch when the Creation burns himself alive on the Doctor's funeral pyre.

The Creation never asked to be created. He never wanted the life of shame and rejection that his hideous appearance brought upon him. The fact that he chooses to end his life when his only family dies is utterly tragic.

Calling the Creation a "villain" is a contentious topic, but he does do some pretty evil things in this movie.

Should he have ripped that women's heart out? No. Are we still allowed to feel sympathetic towards him and wish he'd met a nicer end? Absolutely.
