One Fourth of July a group of painfully 90s teens hit a pedestrian whilst speeding down the highway. Instead of trying to help the man, the group decide to dump his body in the ocean and never speak of it again.

Raise your hand if you can see what they did wrong here. Any takers? No?

Right, so first off, drink driving is bad. Second, never dump a man you’ve just hit with your car in the ocean! Call an ambulance because, who knows, they might just still be alive. They also might just decide to come back and murder you a year later if you don’t.

Sadly, that's exactly what happens in this movie: the pedestrian was still alive and goes on to torment and eventually murder the majority of the teens who hit him. Disclaimer: murder is not cool, so it’s not being justified here. What we can extrapolate, however, is that the killer’s actions are reactionary against the teens’ immoral behaviour at the beginning of the film.

Is the “an eye for an eye” mentality going to get you very far in life? Is it moral? No. Although, we as an audience can at least understand how the killer got from point A to point B.
